What was it like to learn to read in antiquity? How did students experience the texts we call “classics” today? In this talk we will get a glimpse into the ancient classroom, with an overview of the varieties of surviving evidence (literary accounts, papyri, ostraca, writing tablets, written colloquia) and examples of each.
