""The Basilica di San Pelino is the subject of an in-depth study addressing two broad areas of critical analysis: cultural heritage and digital documentation. Definitions of culture, authenticity and artwork will also be examined to emphasize

the influence of the Basilica on today’s understanding of Roman architecture, Roman character and design of outdoor public spaces. The first part of this lecture examines the chronological historical events that led the Township of Corfinio

(Aq) to become the Capital of the “Lega of the Confederati” in 90 CE and home of the Basilica. The second part analyzes the available 21st century technologies capable of capturing the cultural heritage, geometry, and digital data of a particular building used to monitor its structural behavior during seismic events. The theme of the lecture will discuss a link between cultural heritage and technology by addressing the following questions: is it possible to capture or document Outstanding Universal Value adopting advanced scanning technologies? Can technology have a role in the

preservation and conservation of historical buildings?
